Real Bride Explains Why Lace is Her Favourite Summer Wedding Fabric

“I have always shared a bitter-sweet relation with lace”, said Clara, when she came to us for her wedding shopping. “Lace dress is heavy”, she believed and for her major life event, she was in no way ready for it. Neither she wanted any princess dress or ball gowns for herself. Instead, she was looking for a smart & sleek look to go with the trend.

We suggested her lace fabric for her summer wedding, despite knowing that she is not much in love with it. “And that’s when my lace love affair began”, said Clara.

Many people do not consider lace a summertime fabric, instead choose crepe, chiffon, or lightweight organza for their wedding dress. But, compared to the “un-laced” siblings, lace is more glamourous and exudes an old-world charm. It’s not pretentious yet gorgeous in the true sense of the term.

The Wow Factor of Lace

Believe it or not, lace has always been a massive fashion hit all through those past decades. For summer, brides can go for the light floral-themed versions instead of the heavy guipure lace. If you choose a perfect, sheer, and delicate version of lace for your summer wedding outfit, it won’t feel uncomfortable. You can always go for an openwork pattern designed from natural fibers like silk and cotton.

Wide Variety of Designs

Lace can perfectly hold an array of designs- floral, botanical, geometric, and more. When sewing clothes, lace can be used as the main material or for decorating hems. From evening dresses and cocktail attire to wedding dresses and accessories, you can design anything out of lace. Dainty white lace tops, dresses, and skirts not only make a great summer bridal outfit but also make you look effortlessly classy.

Lace Detailing is Mesmerising

Sometimes, a touch of lace is all you need to jazz up your wedding ensemble. Even if you are not choosing any dress that's totally lace made, you can go for something that comes with a little touch of lace. Lace sleeve detail or a lace hem on a classic wedding gown makes a big difference in your overall look. It also can soften the image of any look and is a great way to combat the scorching sun.

For short wedding outfits, lace detailing creates wonder. Our bride Clara wanted to stitch a short tea-length outfit for her wedding. Something that would exude a vintage vibe while keeping things subtle and trendy. Our bride Clara’s sleeveless midi-dress was later made from high-quality lace and it captivates glances with a boat neckline, dipped back, and a fine satin belt.

The Takeaway

"The most popular wedding dress fabric would be lace, even in the summer", says popular wedding designers. In terms of the fabric texture, lace is extremely diverse in pattern, weight, and embellishments. Moreover, it’s flexible enough to work well in every shape. Woven from silk or cotton, lace is often used as an overlay or detail to add a romantic or vintage vibe.

The graceful material comes in many styles including French laces like Chantilly (intricate detailing) and Alençon (bold motifs with corded trim), and Venise (heavier and more textured). The distinctive versatility of lace makes it a popular choice for year-round use. Gone are the days, when lace was only meant for the colder months. Today, lace outfits are the best choice for modern brides.
